Rib eye steak

What is rib eye steak?

Alongside fillet, sirloin and T bone steak, the rib eye is yet another beautiful and flavoursome steak. And of these 4 top notch steaks, rib eye offers the most intense and rich flavour. Rib eye steaks are cut from the main muscles that are attached to the spine of the cow, and feature a dense area of marbled fat, which dissolves nicely during cooking to provide mouth-watering succulence.

How to cook rib eye steak

There is a selection of methods that work well for cooking a rib eye steak, grilling, pan frying or broiling. Due to the high fat content of this delicious cut, grilling and broiling can be a little tougher to handle, due to spattering of oil. We’d recommend pan frying rib eye steak.

As with any other steak, the rib eye benefits from fast cooking on a high heat. Ensure the steak is well seasoned and the oil in the pan is hot; the ideal time to place the meat in the pan is just as the oil begins smoking.

Adjust the cooking times depending on your preference; rare, medium-rare, medium, medium-well or well done. After cooking, allow the steak to rest for a few minutes. This will allow the juices that rise to the surface to slowly seep back into the meat for even more flavour, texture and tenderness.
