Black pudding is actually cooked during the making process so it doesn’t need to be cooked. However, it really enhances the flavour, texture and temperature to cook it again.

You can cook black pudding in several different ways, including frying, grilling, air frying, oven cooking and more. Start by slicing, if no precut, to around 1.5 cm. This will let you cook the black pudding without burning.

How long to cook black pudding

Follow the advice on your black pudding, however, you can use the timings below as a guide:

  • To fry, heat your favourite oil or butter in a frying pan. Then cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until it’s hot all the way through and the edges are nice and crisp.
  • For grilling, preheat your grill, then cook for around 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
  • In the oven, preheat to 200°C and cook for 10 to 12 minutes. Flip halfway through the cooking time.

Black pudding will take 3 to 4 minutes on each side in the air fryer at 180°C.

Once cooked, the outside and edges will have a nice crisp and the middle will have a consistent colouring throughout.
